    Canton, West Central set to battle in Game of Week

    HARTFORD, S.D. (KELO) — Third-ranked Canton visits West Central in the KELOLAND Sports Game of the Week Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7:05 p.m. on KELOXTRA and KELOLAND.com.

    #3 CANTON C-HAWKS

    Canton enters the game with a 3-1 record. It is averaging 23 points per game.

    The C-Hawks opened the season with a pair of single-score victories at home. They defeated Rapid City Christian 20-16 and Dakota Valley 20-13. The third-ranked team in 11A won its first road game 45-31 at Vermillion. It suffered its first loss last week at top-ranked Sioux Falls Christian 49-7.

    WEST CENTRAL TROJANS

    West Central is 2-2 on the season. The runner-up from the last two seasons is averaging 38 points per game and is outscoring its opponents by a dozen points.

    The Trojans suffered a season-opening loss at Sioux Falls Christian. They hit the road for a 56-15 win at Belle Fourche and a 55-7 victory at McCook Central/Montrose. West Central lost to Lennox 40-28 last week.

    THE SERIES

    West Central and Canton have played 17 times over the last two decades. The Trojans won a dozen of those matchups and the last two meetings. Five of the last seven showdowns have been decided by a touchdown or less, including a 32-28 victory last season.

    THE GAME

    KELOLAND Sports will have live coverage of the game. Pregame begins at 7 p.m. on KELOXTRA and KELOLAND.com. Kick-off is set for 7:05 p.m.

    KELOLAND’s Ian Sacks and Jordan DeSmet, a former Northwestern offensive lineman, will be on the call.
