    Viking Soccer downs Huskies Friday night

    SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Augustana) – The Augustana soccer team (3-3-1, 2-1-0) locked up the St. Cloud State Huskies (5-2-0, 2-1-0) by a score of 1-0 Friday night on Morstad Field. Morgan Mancuso broke the stalemate in the 64th minute of play with her first career goal to secure the Vikings win.

    Mancuso, a freshman from Omaha, Nebraska headed in the ball off a pass from Halle Miller who soared it in from outside the box.

    Augustana outshot the Huskies 12-11 with four of them finding their way on goal. Aaliyah Matthews garnered a clean sheet with four saves.

    Sierra Barkus led the Vikings with three shots. Eight different Vikings made shot attempts throughout 90 minutes.

    SHOT (SCSU) 9′ – After a team block from Augustana, Ellie Primerano fired in a shot from inside the box towards the bottom left corner but Matthews dived out with her first save of the game.

    SHOT (AU) 14′ – Ashlyn Kelliher played a ball into the box and found the laces of Madelyn White who was just stopped by the Huskies keeper.

    SHOT (AU) 16′ – Connor Rylance booted in the ball from the corner and found the head of Avery Heinz for Augustana’s second shot of the game.

    SHOT (AU) 17′ – Barkus just missed the top bar with a powerful shot from outside the box.

    SHOT (SCSU) 21′ – Ariel Hawkey found an opportunity inside the box but Matthews dived out for the save.

    SHOT (AU) 33/44′ – Augustana continued its offensive pressure in the later half of the first half with shots from Cecilia Burroughs and Kelliher.

    SHOT (AU) 60′ – Barkus recorded the first shot of the second half with a powerful shot that went just wide of the top bar.

    GOAL (AU) 64′ – Mancuso recorded her first collegiate goal after she headed in the ball off a pass from Miller who soared it in from outside the box.

    SHOT (SCSU) 79′ – Matthews continued to stay strong in the net after the Huskies upped the offensive pressure in the final 20 minutes of play.
