ABERDEEN, S.D. (KELO) — Northern State picked up its first win of the season with a 30-24 victory over Winona State at Dacotah Bank Stadium Saturday night.

The Wolves (1-4) struck first with a field goal in the opening minutes. After a Warrior touchdown, NSU retook the lead with Hank Kraft’s 10-yard TD run early in the second quarter. Daniel Britt connected with Ty Wiley less than two minutes later for a 32-yard score to put the hosts in front by 10.

Winona scored the only two TDs of the third quarter and led 21-17 heading into the final stanza. Northern retook the lead on Colton Hackel’s 18-yard touchdown pass to Tanner Branson. Wyatt Block made it a two-score game with a two-yard touchdown run with just under four minutes left.

Northern held a 190-108 advantage on the ground and outgained the Warriors by 21 total yards.

Block led the Wolves rushing attack with 88 yards and one score on 14 carries. Britt compiled 49 yards on the ground on eight attempts.

NSU is set to welcome Bemidji State to Aberdeen next week.
