MINNEAPOLIS (KELO) — The Minnesota Lynx dropped game one of their best-of-five WNBA semifinal series to the Connecticut Sun 73-70 at Target Center Sunday night.

Minnesota led by five entering the fourth quarter, but Connecticut doubled up the hosts 16-8 over the final stanza. DiJonai Carrington gave the Sun the lead for good midway through the quarter. The Lynx managed just one basket over the final 3:50 of the contest.

Napheesa Collier pulled Minnesota within one with a layup with just over 30 seconds remaining. Alyssa Thomas responded with a foul-line jumper with 12 ticks left on the clock. On the final possession of the game, Collier was forced to hoist up a three that fell short as time expired.

The Sun jumped on top early and led by as many as nine early in the second. The Lynx responded with 15 straight points to surge in front.

Connecticut knocked down 40.9% (9-for-22) of their 3-point attempts, compared to 25% (5-for-20) for Minnesota.

Collier led three Lynx in double figures with 19 points and nine rebounds. Bridget Carleton contributed 17, and Kayla McBride added 12.

Four Sun players finished in double figures. Marina Mabrey led the way with a game-high 20 on 6-of-11 from deep.

Game two is set for Tuesday night at Target Center before the series shifts to Connecticut.
