YANKTON, S.D. (KELO) — The Mount Marty football team features a trio of brothers from right here in South Dakota.

Ezekiel, Zion and Zoan Robinson grew up in Vermillion. With six years separating the oldest (Ezekiel) from the youngest (Zoan), their chances to all suit up together were limited… until this season.

“It’s really been a blessing to be able to play with both of them,” Zoan said. “It’s something that we have always been dreaming about, just playing all of us on the same team.”

“It’s pretty cool,” Zion said. “I would say it doesn’t happen a lot, but it’s kind of like backyard football. It helps us all and keeps us confident.”

This past summer, Ezekiel was granted one more season of eligibility after playing at USD and Southwest Minnesota State. With Zoan and Zion already on the Lancer roster, the decision became clear to him.

“It’s really a dream come true,” Ezekiel said. “We kind of never thought it would happen. Once the opportunity presented itself, I was just like, ‘Man, there’s something we can talk about when we’re 40 or 50.’ So, it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity. I’ve just been enjoying every single day just being around them and being able to see them work in and out, in the classroom, in the field. And so it’s been awesome.”

“Talking about a football team, you usually talk about family,” Mount Marty head coach John Michaletti said. “That’s one of the words that usually come up. So, actually having not only two brothers but three brothers on the same team and local guys too, is special.”

Having three brothers on the same team is concrete proof of the family feel of the Mount Marty program.

“It’s just a great example of what Mount Marty is, a great example of what Lancer football is,” Michaletti said. “And it is a family. I think just having those guys and the continuous family is a great example of that.”

Ezekiel and Zoan Robinson are wide receivers for Mount Marty, while Zion, the middle brother, plays linebacker.
