SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The Augustana hockey team opened the season with an exhibition match and they made a statement with a 4-1 victory at a ranked North Dakota.

The Vikings are now gearing up for their season and home opener this weekend, as they’ll welcome Long Island to Sioux Falls.

The completion of Midco Arena in January means Augustana will have locker rooms, a home ice rink and full facilities to utilize all season.

That will help avoid some of the distractions they had off ice last year, while the arena was being completed.

“I don’t know if pulling attention away is the right word, but a lot of different obstacles that we had to overcome that kind of set the foundation for the first year. We’re definitely back and ready to go for year two,” Augustana forward Luke Mobley said.

The Vikings open the season on Friday. They host Long Island with puck drop at 7:07.
