First flakes of snow tomorrow in the Black Hills; Scattered showers east

SIOUX FALL, S.D. (KELO) — Another warm and windy day is ahead for much of KELOLAND. Our top weather headline is another Red Flag Warning for extreme fire danger across much of eastern and central KELOLAND. Continue to exercise caution as the conditions will be very dry and windy today.

Futurecast does offer some changes to the weather the next 48 hours. A cold front moving into NW South Dakota will bring cooler weather to the west and some rain chances starting tonight into tomorrow. In fact, some snow should fall in the Black Hills. We have more about that topic in the section below. Otherwise, expect another warm and windy day in Sioux Falls on Friday as most of the scattered showers should stay on the cool side of the front. We expect scattered rain showers to push eastward into Saturday morning.

Here’s a closer look at the Black Hills forecast for Friday. Those 30s during the day should support a blend of rain and snow.

While the snow forecast is not significant, it does represent first real chance of frozen precipitation in KELOLAND this season.

The wind forecast will stay strong ahead of the front, but should diminish by Saturday. More south winds will return early next week in advance of the next storm system moving our direction.

The upper-level low is still moving our direction by Monday, but it’s lacking deep moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. Thus, we’ll carry the phrasing of “scattered showers” in the forecast for now.
