FARGO, N.D. (SDSU) — The South Dakota State soccer team was unable to overcome a first-half goal given up as North Dakota State handed the Jackrabbits a 1-0 defeat on Thursday, Oct. 17, at Dacotah Field.

SDSU was the aggressor on the attack to open the match as the Jacks recorded the first three shots during the opening 12 minutes of action. It took 30 minutes for the Bison to register a shot, but followed up the initial attempt by finding the back of the net.

NDSU sent a cross into the box to Devon Kavanagh. She headed a pass in front of goal to Morgan Russmann who struck the ball into the net to propel the Bison in front, 1-0, in the 31st minute.

The two sides went into the break with just one more shot produced.

The Jackrabbits put the pressure on in the second half. SDSU totaled 10 shots in the final 45 minutes, compared to NDSU’s one, however both teams by the end of the match put just two shots on goal apiece. SDSU had two shots in the waning moments come from Solala Nasu and Avery Murdzek , but one went over the top of the goal and the other was saved in the 89th minute to close out the meeting.

North Dakota State improved to 8-5-3 (4-1-1 Summit League) with the victory. South Dakota State dropped to 10-3-2 (3-1-1) with the loss.
