GRAND FORKS N.D. (USD) – Gusty winds prevented the South Dakota soccer team from building much momentum offensively in the first half, but as the teams flipped directions, the Coyotes were able to even the match and walk away with a 1-1 tie against North Dakota Thursday afternoon.

Both teams scored their goals with the wind at their back. UND got on the board first with a goal in the fourth minute of the game, but it would be their only shot on goal in the half. The Coyotes (3-6-5, 1-1-3) had four shots on goal going into the wind in the first half, but no goals scored.

In the 52 nd minute, Janaina Zanin threw the ball in, received a pass from Brooke Conway , and fired a shot from well outside the penalty box, finding the top right corner of the goal.

The Coyotes fired off 13 shots, five on goal in the second half. The Coyotes outshot UND 19-8 and had eight more corners. Ashby Johnston fired off seven shots, four on goal for the Coyotes. Zanin scored her second goal of the season and Conway recorded her first assist of the year. In goal, Cambell Fischer tallied two saves.

South Dakota stays on the road for its final road game of the regular season Sunday. The Coyotes will be at North Dakota State starting at 1 p.m. in Fargo, North Dakota.
