MINNEAPOLIS (KELO) — The Minnesota Vikings raced out to an early 10-point lead before the Detroit Lions roared back to claim a 31-29 victory to hand the Vikings their first loss of the season. Jake Bates kicked a 44-yard field goal with 15 seconds left to give Detroit the lead.

After the Lions turned it over on downs on their first drive of the contest, Aaron Jones notched a 34-yard touchdown to give the Vikings the lead. Will Reichard booted a 57-yard field goal to make it 10-0 less than 10 minutes into the game.

Detroit scored three touchdowns in the second quarter. Jahmyr Gibbs found the endzone twice as the Lions led 21-10 at halftime.

Sam Darnold found Justin Jefferson for a TD to begin the scoring in the third quarter. Another Lion TD extended the lead back to 11. After pair of Reichard field goals in the fourth, Ivan Pace Jr. recovered a fumble and returned it 36 yards for a TD to give the Vikes a one-point lead. Their two-point conversion failed.

Darnold threw for 259 yards one TD and one interception. Jones rushed for 93 yards and the one score. Jefferson hauled in seven catches for 81 yards and one touchdown.

The Vikings hit the road for a showdown with the Los Angeles Rams Thursday night.
