Body of teenager recovered after being pulled under water by rip current on the Outer Banks
COROLLA, N.C. — The body of a teenage boy who was pulled underwater off the coast of the Outer Banks over the weekend has been recovered. A spokesperson from the U.S. Coast Guard told 13News Now that Currituck County officials requested USCG assistance at around 1 p.m. Saturday, after a 13-year-old boy was reportedly swept under the water by a rip current near Corolla. The county had asked for the Coast Guard to deploy an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter to aid in a search for the missing teen in the water.

A federal judge ruled Friday that a provision in North Carolina's abortion laws requiring doctors to document the location of a pregnancy before prescribing abortion pills should be blocked permanently, affirming that it was too vague to be enforced reasonably.The implementation of that requirement was already halted last year by U.S. District Judge Catherine Eagles until a lawsuit challenging portions of the abortion law enacted by the Republican-dominated General Assembly in 2023 was litigated further. Driver flown to trauma center after crashing into tree near North Fayetteville
A single-car crash left a driver seriously injured Sunday morning.It happened on Elliot Bridge Road near Linden and North Fayetteville just before 6:30 a.m.Upon arrival, units found a Chevrolet SUV had crashed into a tree with the driver pinned inside the vehicle.Authorities said they were able to free the driver.The driver was then flown to a trauma center for their injuries. Their identity has not been released yet.The driver is facing charges for driving while intoxicated, speeding, using a fictitious plate on a vehicle, and not wearing a seatbelt.North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Durham Residents Should Beware Some Sliced Deli Meats
North Carolina is one of at least 13 states affected by a listeria outbreak linked to meats sliced at deli counters during the past month. On Friday, Virginia-based Boar’s Head announced it was recalling all liverwurst products “because it may be adulterated with listeria monocytogenes,” according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service. The company’s also recalling other deli meat products produced on the same line and on the same day as the liverwurst. The recall involves about 207,528 pounds of meat.
