What-A-Burger #13 in N. Carolina Fires Back in Suit Versus Whataburger in Texas
Whataburger is a Texas born and bred burger chain that has gained a huge following throughout its 50 plus years. A few years ago, Whataburger decided to sell so they could have the opportunity to spread their burger goodness across the country. That prompted many in Texas to turn against the burger giant. The company now has plans to expand into the Carolinas where a similarly named burger joint exists, What-A-Burger #13. Whataburger has talked with this restaurant before and believed they breached their agreement and violated their trademark.

HAMLET — Richmond County is being recognized for having one of the best potential industrial sites in the state. The Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina on Wednesday released the Selectsite Readiness Program Report from the Dallas, Texas-based Site Selection Group with technical support from engineering firm Thomas and Hutton — and Energy Way made the list.
Tribe unveils Lumbee Historical Marker
PEMBROKE — State officials joined the Lumbee Tribe at the unveiling of the Lumbee Historical Marker at the Lumbee Tribe Housing Complex. The marker is one of nine being dedicated in 2024 by the N.C. State Historical Marker Program that highlights American Indian culture and history in North Carolina. The guest speakers included State Secretary Pam Brewington Cashwell, North Carolina Department of Administration; State Secretary D. Reid Wilson, N. C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources; and Department of Transportation Board member Grady Hunt.

Wildlife Commission announces 2024 wild turkey harvest total
RALEIGH — Results from the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission’s (NCWRC) 2024 Wild Turkey Harvest Summary report show that hunters recorded 24,074 birds harvested statewide in 2024, including 2,372 birds taken during the youth season. Hunters harvested 15 fewer turkeys than last year’s record total, making the 2024 Spring Turkey season the second-highest year on record.
