According to a new report by Business NC, Gastonia-based Parkdale Mills will be closing its plant in Sanford - and 74 workers will be laid off.

Karen Menting, the VP of Global Human Resources for the company, released a statement saying that the decision to close the facility was "due to economic challenges we are facing, particularly the rapid increase in energy costs, which has rendered our business model unsustainable".

The plant first opened its doors in Sanford in 2008. Parkdale Mills is one of the largest private companies in NC and is the largest consumer of cotton in America. The layoffs for the company will begin November 17, 2024.
