Update 6:14pm: Governor Hochul says she has deployed the NYS Police and other agencies to help in Oneida County. As the heat index rose and the potential for storms grew, a tornado has been confirmed in Rome, NY - just north of Utica. Photos from the scene show a church with its roof and steeple torn off, numerous downed trees and power lines, overturned vehicles - even a B-52 bomber on display at the Air Force base was moved by the strong winds.
Dunkirk Police Hosting National Night Out Celebration on August 6th
The Dunkirk Police Department has announced that it will once again host a celebration of National Night Out. The city's annual community policing event will take place on Tuesday, August 6th and will mark the 31st year the city will be involved. City police and fire crews will be at Washington Park, beginning at 6:30 PM, and a movie will follow at about 8:00 PM. Police will release more details about the event at a later date.

Cosmic Cowboys to Open Music at the Point Sunset Concert Series
After getting postponed last week, the City of Dunkirk is set to host its first Music at the Point Sunset Concert Series performance of the season on Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 PM. Playing at Point Gratiot will be the Cosmic Cowboys, who have been playing in the area since 2010. They consist of Dan Raynor (vocals, guitar), Jerry Waite (guitar) and Corky Gloff (bass, vocals). They cover mostly classic rock with a few outlaw country songs thrown in the mix. Some of the music you might catch them playing will include Eric Clapton, John Cougar Mellencamp, Steve Earle, Pink Floyd, David Bowie, the Rolling Stones, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and other crowd favorites.
