MARIETTA — The Cobb Board of Commissioners opted not to take action on two proposed housing developments this week — a five-story student housing building near Kennesaw State University and a Mableton townhome community.

Athens-based developer Landmark Properties is proposing a 55-foot building with 191 units and 762 bedrooms at 112 Townpark Drive, adjacent to the exit ramp at Interstate 575 and Chastain Road.

The gated building would include a parking deck with 665 parking spaces and a rooftop pool and amenity area.

The developer is seeking both a rezoning and a special land-use permit to build the tower.

Earlier this month, the Cobb Planning Commission sent the proposed five-story student housing development to the board without a recommendation, after continuing the case twice in May and June. On Tuesday, the board continued the case until the next zoning hearing on Aug. 20.

The second rezoning request delayed this week was made by O’Dwyer Properties for a Mableton townhome community located at 1035 Old Bankhead Highway, south of Veterans Memorial Highway.

O’Dwyer Properties is proposing 16 townhomes on the 4.17-acre site. The townhomes would have two-car garages, craftsman-style architecture and be a minimum of 1,400 square feet.

During the hearing, Cobb Zoning Manager John Pederson said the applicant needs more time to refine the application.

Commissioners voted 4-0, with Chairwoman Lisa Cupid absent, to delay the project again until the board’s Aug. 20 hearing.
