The senior golfer and second-year team captain finished the regular season as the boys overall points leader in the Philadelphia Catholic League, and placed second at the Catholic League Championship at Jeffersonville Golf Club with a one-under par score of 69. Last fall, he was a leading player on the Tides’ PIAA state championship team. Off the course at Devon Prep, Curran is a member of DECA, a youth entrepreneur-business and leadership program. Devon Prep golf coach Tony Ball said, “John can play golf at a high level, he has all the physical traits that you want in a golfer – he’s strong, he has every shot in the bag, and he never takes a day off. But the most intriguing thing about John’s golf game is his imagination when hitting shots. John has the innate ability to see shots that nobody else thinks about or tries. He can see shot shapes that normal golfers don’t, and then he executes. I would say that John’s curiosity and imagination inspired his growth over the past couple of years. There’s nothing John can’t do in this game, and I think he’s only scratching the surface of how good he can be. As a (Devon Prep) teammate, I don’t know if you’ll find a guy having more fun with his teammates. He’s a great leader and listener, both on and off the course. John is a two-time captain, but he’s been a leader on the team for the past three seasons. We owe a lot of our team’s success to John’s ability to step up and lead a group of young men in competition.”
