A 26-year-old Kennewick man has been identified as the person killed outside of a Volland Street apartment complex Saturday evening.

Taylor Scoles was shot at the Crown Village apartments about 7 p.m., Kennewick police said in a Tuesday Facebook post.

It’s unclear why Scoles was at the apartment complex. Public records show he lived in a home with his mother about a mile away.

Officers were called to the complex next door to WinCo Foods off Clearwater Avenue to investigate a weapons complaint , Kennewick police said. When they arrived, they found Scoles in a parking lot.

He was taken to a local hospital where he died from his gunshot wounds.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday, Benton County Chief Deputy Coroner Dennis Morris said.

Police have released little else about the shooting but have confirmed that it is being investigated as a homicide.

People living at the apartments have reported on social media that they saw the man get shot outside their windows.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Kennewick police using the non-emergency dispatch number at 509-628-0333.

Public records show that Scoles previously lived in Everett before moving to the Tri-Cities to live with his mother.

Scoles has a lengthy history of troubles with the law while living in Snohomish County, however, most of his charges are for minor theft, property crimes and obstructing police.

It doesn’t appear that he had any charges since moving to the Tri-Cities.

The Crown Village apartment complex is in the center of what has become one of the busiest areas recently for police and emergency crews. It saw more 911 calls than anywhere else in the city in 2022.
