KENNEWICK, Wash. -- The Kennewick Irrigation District announced residents can return to a voluntary watering schedule.

After a mandatory watering schedule was issued on July 7, the mandatory schedule will be lifted on Sunday, August 4.

“We are incredibly grateful for the cooperation and water-saving efforts of our community during this challenging drought period,” said Shane Leonard, District Manager of the Kennewick Irrigation District. “Your commitment to conservation has been instrumental in ensuring a reliable water supply for all.”

KID said it understands the troubles of adhering to a mandatory watering schedule but due to the efforts of the community, water demand has significantly decreased.

According to KID, the area is still in a drought and staff is still urging the community to conserve water. Below is important information from KID:

    Important Information:

    • The voluntary watering schedule remains the same as the previous mandatory schedule and can be found at kid.org.
    • Drip irrigation systems and hose watering are not affected by the watering schedule.
    • Customers can find additional drought information and a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section at kid.org.
