KENOSHA, Wis.—Kenosha St. Joseph starter Mason Ballard welcomed the Clinton baseball team to its first regional final appearance in 12 years by throwing five-plus strong innings while allowing just two hits and working around seven walks.

Reliever Dylan Love finished off the Cougars with 1 1-3 no-hit innings with a strikeout to help the Lancers win a WIAA Division 3 regional championship 6-1 on Thursday night.

Dominic Santarelli’s triple set up an RBI single by Tommy Santarelli to help Kenosha take a 1-0 lead in the first inning. An error put the second-seeded Lancers up 2-0 in the second before No. 6 Clinton cut the deficit in half with Collin Gill’s RBI single in the third.

But a one-run single by Dominic Santarelli and a sacrifice fly by Zach Rizzo made it 4-1 in the fourth. An RBI double by Peter Visconti and a one-run single by Tommy Santarelli in the fifth upped it to 6-1.

A Tyler Moe single was the only other hitting Clinton could manage, but it did work seven total walks, including two from Gavin Wesling.

Tim Arnold took the loss as he allowed 11 hits and six runs (five earned) with four walks and two punchouts in 5 1-3 innings against the hot-hitting Lancers (21-4).

The Cougars’ 14-8 record is their most victories in a season since 2012, when they went 20-6, and comes just two seasons after Clinton went just 3-18.
