The Grayson Chamber of Commerce needs to know what local businesses – and their customers – most need from them. That request for feedback was a major theme when the chamber met last week (July 9) for their regularly scheduled monthly meeting. Chamber coordinator Mike Nelson reported that the chamber currently has 175 active members, with more expected to join in the coming months. But the chamber needs those members to be active and communicative in order to make the most of their membership.
Combs resigns as Grayson Tourism Treasurer
Grayson tourism board will need to find a new treasurer in the near future. The current board treasurer, Don Combs, made the board aware during their last regular meeting (July 10) that he would be stepping down as treasurer to avoid a conflict of interest as he steps into a new role for the county.

Herd ace hosts baseball camp in hometown
LOUISA, Ky. (WSAZ) - In baseball terms, the first year of the Bryce Blevins camp was equivalent to throwing a no-hitter. Over 100 kids ranging from Hurricane, WV to various locations in the Commonwealth showed up Tuesday to learn from the Marshall pitcher. Blevins won the Sun Belt pitcher of the week four times last season for the Herd and WSAZ Sports stopped by and visited with the Marshall star in his hometown.

Late runs cost River Riders against Coal Cats
Elizabethton dropped the series opener Tuesday to the Tri-State Coal Cats, 4-3. Elizabethton (14-21) jumped out to an early lead against Tri-State (15-21) after the River Riders struck for three in the fourth. James Woody II (Grambling State) doubled to open the scoring, Nick Hockemeyer (Purdue Fort Wayne) tripled and Carlos Irizarry (Penn State Harrisburg) hit a sacrifice fly. Woody was Elizabethton’s top hitter, going 4-for-4 with the RBI and a run scored.
Wednesday downpours to be a factor
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -In the middle of a summer on the verge of drought, Wednesday offers the risk of two waves of rain and pockets of high water. Going into the day, most areas are still lacking in rain and streams are running lower than normal. But select areas in the Coalfields did measure important 1″-2″ rainfalls during Tuesday evening’s action, so these are regions are at a higher risk for water issues than others should new downpours develop and linger on Wednesday.
