KENSINGTON — Authorities have identified the man shot and killed July 22 after an hours-long standoff with police at a home on Olivia Lane in Kensington.

Anthony J. Previte, 29, of Kensington, was armed when he was fatally shot in a police-involved shooting, according to the state attorney general's office.

The shooting took place hours after officers responded to Olivia Lane at about 12:05 p.m. Monday, July 22, to follow up on a mental health call from the previous night. According to the state police, Kensington officers received information about a male in the home criminally threatening another occupant.

The Seacoast Emergency Response Team and the Strafford County Regional Tactical Operations Unit responded. A multi-hour standoff followed, and police warned the public to shelter in place due to a "possible barricaded person with a firearm."

Shortly after 10:30 p.m., during an "ensuing encounter with the armed male," six police officers discharged their firearms, and one officer discharged a less-lethal munition, according to the state's attorney general office.

Police said life-saving measures were attempted at the scene, but the Previte died from injuries sustained.

The state attorney general's office announced Friday that an autopsy on Previte was conducted by Chief Medical Examiner Jennie V. Duval.

Duval determined that the cause of his death was gunshot wounds to the head and chest, and the manner of death was homicide. As used by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, homicide is defined as the killing of one person by another.

The state's attorney general's office said the investigation by the New Hampshire Department of Justice, with the assistance of the New Hampshire State Police Major Crimes Unit, is ongoing. The identity of the officers using deadly force will not be disclosed until formal interviews take place. Interviews, they said, are expected to take place in the next five to 10 business days.

"The exact circumstances surrounding this incident remain actively under investigation," according to a release from the state's attorney general's office.
