Kent Co. house fire ruled accidental
SMYRNA, Del. – Delaware State Fire Marshals have determined that a house fire in Smyrna Tuesday night was accidental. Firefighters were called to the unit block of Zelkova Road just before 10 p.m., observing heavy fire conditions in the two-story home. Assistance was requested from several nearby fire departments and Kent County EMS.

Manufactured Home Fire in Frederica Leaves Two Critically Injured
The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a manufactured home fire that left two elderly individuals with serious injuries. The fire occurred early this morning in Frederica in Kent County. The fire was reported shortly after 3:00am on Sycamore Dr. in the High Point Mobile Home Park, by a passing motorist. The Magnolia and Bowers Beach Fire Companies initially responded and arrived. The fire involved an attached deck and spread into the structure. Assistance was requested from additional fire companies, as well as EMS. Two elderly victims were rescued from the home by neighbors and the passing motorist that notified 911, prior to the arrival of the fire department. Both victims from inside the home were transported to Bayhealth Kent Hospital by EMS on scene and later transferred to Crozer Medical Center in PA. Their condition was listed as critical. One civilian involved in the rescuing of the victims was also transported to Bayhealth Kent Hospital for smoke inhalation and has been released. Damages are estimated at $20,000.

String of copper wire thefts in Sussex, Kent Counties under investigation
DELAWARE – Delaware State Police are investigating a string of copper wire thefts in the Greenwood and Houston areas. We’re told over the past month, several area farms have had copper wiring stolen from irrigation systems. Police say the crimes appear to have happened between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. The suspects are trespassing onto farm properties and cutting copper wires ranging from 50 feet to several hundred feet.

Head-on crash south of Camden-Wyoming leaves one driver dead
A two-vehicle wreck in Kent County left one driver dead early Wednesday morning. Delaware State Police said the driver of an SUV crossed the center line of Walnut Shade Road in Woodside and crashed into an oncoming car at about 5:00 a.m. The driver of the car that was hit, 31-year-old Brian Moore of Magnolia, died at the scene.
