Kent County Public Library invites you to take part in One Maryland One Book, a program of Maryland Humanities designed to bring together diverse people in communities across the state through the shared experience of reading the same book.
The 2024 One Maryland One Book selection, “What Storm, What Thunder” by Myriam J.A. Chancy, follows 10 characters as they experience the aftermath of the devastating 2011 earthquake that shook the capital of Haiti, Port-au-Prince. From the synopsis: “Brilliantly crafted, fiercely imagined, and deeply haunting, What Storm, What Thunder is a singular, stunning record, a reckoning of the heartbreaking trauma of disaster, and—at the same time—an unforgettable testimony to the tenacity of the human spirit.”
Join the local library this fall for book discussions and other programs that tie in to the book and its themes. Free copies of “What Storm, What Thunder” will be available at any KCPL location on a first come, first served basis while supplies last, and the book is also available to be checked out or downloaded through Libby using your library card.

About One Maryland One Book
When we read a great book, we can’t wait to share the experience and talk about it with others. That’s one of the joys of reading.
In that spirit, Maryland Humanities created One Maryland One Book (OMOB) to bring together diverse people in communities across the state through the shared experience of reading the same book. We invite you to participate in book-centered discussions and related programs at public libraries, high schools, colleges, museums, bookstores, and community and senior centers around the state.
