Kent Police detectives and Valley SWAT arrested two more suspects in connection with the murder of 13-year-old Matthiew Stavkovy, who was shot on July 16, 2024, at Turnkey Park in Kent.

Despite receiving emergency medical aid from responding officers and medics, Matthiew tragically did not survive.

On July 22, an 18-year-old Kent man was arrested for Matthiew’s murder. The investigation continued aggressively, leading to the identification of two additional suspects.

On July 25, just before 4 p.m., Kent detectives and Valley SWAT responded to a residence in Covington. They successfully negotiated with the suspects, ages 19 and 16, who were taken into custody without incident and later booked.

The Kent Detective Unit is continuing its investigation to ensure all parties involved are held accountable.

“While there is no way to compensate for the incredible loss felt by the Stavkovy Family and the community, it is my hope that today’s arrests in addition to the arrest made last week, provide them some measure of comfort,” Police Chief Rafael Padilla said. “From the time our officers responded to the tragic shooting of Matthiew, our detectives have worked nonstop to identify and arrest those responsible. I am incredibly thankful that KPD has such outstanding women and men dedicated to serving and protecting the Kent Community.”
