Volvo: Kentucky has some of the ‘coolest’ scenic routes in the US

LEXINGTON, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — With Kentucky’s weather staying in the 90s, maybe it is time to get outside, but with a twist.

Maybe you’re sunburnt from too many weekends on the lake, or perhaps you want to get out without breaking out in a sweat.

Volvo has compiled a list of the “coolest” road trips in America, and three of the 150 most sought-after are in Kentucky. All of the drives are day trips if you live nearby and are at higher elevations to help you get a break from the heat, making many of them great for both car and motorcycle rides.

Country Music Highway, Greenup to Whitesburg, Kentucky – #3

The Country Music Highway starts in Greenup and ends in Whitesburg. Volvo said the three-four hour drive offers views of Appalachia and highlights country music history like Loretta Lynn’s hometown, the Highlands Museum & Discovery Centre.

Land Between the Lakes Scenic Drive, Grand Rivers to Dover – #60

The scenic route from Grand Rivers to Dover is through Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area .

According to Explore Kentucky Lake , the route explores 43 miles of woodlands from Grand River to Dover, Tennessee.

Red River Gorge Scenic Byway, Stanton to Stanton – #115

The Red River Gorge Geological Area is known as a travel destination for backpackers, campers, hikers, and rock climbers, but Volvo also celebrated it as a great place to drive.

The National Scenic Byway Foundation said the route gives drivers a chance to explore scenic outlooks, stone arches, and other rock formations while surrounded by the trees and greenery of the geological area.
