Three kinds of ready-to-eat hot dog products produced by AW Farms in Kentucky are being recalled. These products did not undergo inspection by the U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), prompting the recall initiated on July 15.

The issue was identified when a state public health partner alerted FSIS about these products, which were found to be produced and distributed without proper federal inspection.

    The recalled products include:

    - 10-pound boxes containing two 5-pound vacuum-packed packages of "FRENCH CITY FOODS 6" 12-1 HOTDOGS.

    - 10-pound boxes containing two 5-pound vacuum-packed packages of frozen "PORK, BEEF, DEXTROSE, SALT, SUGAR MAPLE GEO BROWN ALL MEAT HOTDOGS".

    - 10-pound boxes containing two 5-pound vacuum-packed packages of frozen "BEEF, DEXTROSE, SALT, SUGAR MAPLE GEO BROWN ALL BEEF HOTDOGS".

A total of 6,900 pounds of these products are being recalled, per Newsweek. They are marked with "packed on" dates starting from around May 30, and bear the establishment number EST. 47635 within the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) mark of inspection. The shelf life of each product is approximately 45 days.

These products were not available for general consumer purchase in stores but were distributed to establishments solely in Ohio and West Virginia. FSIS advises that restaurants and hotels in those areas should not serve these products to customers. Instead, they should either dispose of them or return them to the place of purchase.

According to FSIS as of July 15, there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions from consuming these products. Individuals concerned about any potential reactions or illnesses should seek advice from a healthcare provider.

Federal inspection of food items produced for consumption throughout the U.S. plays a crucial role in ensuring food safety. The FSIS monitors aspects like undeclared allergens, food-borne illnesses such as listeria or salmonella, and the presence of foreign objects in products.

The FSIS is tasked with overseeing the safety of commercially available meat, poultry, and egg products in accordance with the Federal Meat Inspection Act. This law stipulates that all meat intended for human consumption must undergo federal inspection during slaughter and processing, and the resulting products must pass inspection for human consumption.
