Top Harris VP Contender Andy Beshear ‘Apologizes’ to Diet Mountain Dew While Roasting JD Vance

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear (D) offered an apology to Diet Mountain Dew on Thursday after mocking a joke from vice presidential candidate JD Vance .

“I’ve been a person that sometimes when I’ve gone over the line, I’ve wanted to make sure that I set the record straight. So, I do owe an apology…to Diet Mountain Dew,” Beshear announced at the end of a Thursday press conference as he pulled out a bottle of Diet Mountain Dew and placed it on the podium.

Beshear is on many shortlists as a possibility to be Kamala Harris’s vice presidential pick for November. He was, however, reportedly not on the list of Democrats who recently received vetting materials.

“ Ale-8-One is definitely the soft drink of Kentucky but I don’t believe the government should be making your decisions. So, if you enjoy Diet Mountain Dew, you be you, we want to support you,” Beshear said.

The governor has taken a number of shots at Vance in recent days and roasted him this week for joking that Democrats would find a way to make him drinking Diet Mountain Dew “racist,” earning a tepid response from the rally goers.

Beshear joined CNN later and voiced a little surprise at Vance’s drink of choice.

“What was weird was him joking about racism today and then talking about diet Mountain Dew,” the governor said. “Who drinks diet Mountain Dew? But in all seriousness, he ain’t from here. He is not from Kentucky. This is a guy who would come maybe in the summers for some period of time, or to weddings or funerals.”
