Not right away, but there are future plans for the Aviation Museum of Kentucky to take a short trip. It’s found in a relocation strategy.

The Aviation Museum, located at Blue Grass Airport, has been open to the public for almost 30 years. Four million dollars in state funds have been allocated as seed money for a move. Museum Executive Director Tina Nance said they will not be moving far.

“We’ll be moving to the other side of the airport as part of the airport expansion. So, we’re moving over to the west like side potentially. There are several sites that are laid out for us potentially, but that’s one location in general. It’s helped fund a capital campaign for the building,” said Nance.

Nance said the museum is working with contractors to determine the total cost. Any move won’t be in the near future as airport executives are still mapping out expansion plans and time is required to raise money. Nance noted the aircraft exhibits could be altered with the move to a new location.

“Assessing our inventory currently right now. We have dozens of aircraft in military, some civilian aircraft. And so, we’re in the process of assessing those and determining which ones we’re gonna take, which ones we might have to kind of sell or get rid of. But, I hope we can keep as many as possible maybe even have some new ones,” said Nance.

Nance said the funding underscores the commitment to education, economic development, and workforce readiness by inspiring youth to seek careers in aviation. The Aviation Museum of Kentucky is a financial supporter of WEKU.
