Greg Sarris, leader of the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria that owns Graton Casino, is taking a more aggressive stance against the proposed Koi Nation gambling resort just 15 miles away on Shiloh Road. The Koi Nation with ancestral land in Clearlake is proposing a casino that would rival Graton, at least in size, and Sarris is arguing that it would be in Graton territory. Koi leaders Darin and Dino Beltran, who are brothers, say that their tribe’s history is marked by a forced diaspora, and that Koi families have lived in Sonoma County for several generations.

For more than 50 years, fuchsia has been a favorite of Sebastopol gardener

She has babied that plant for more than 50 years and it still has an honored spot in her own secret garden. Over the decades 150 to 200 other fuchsias have since joined the first one on the same Sebastopol property where she ...

Big plans afoot for the Castagnasso Horse Farm
The continued presence of a horse farm just half-a-block from Sonoma Plaza at 196 East Spain Street is a near miracle. A longtime home to Clydesdales owned by the Castagnasso family, the property was sold to new owners in 2021 when the Castagnasso family relocated to the East Coast. The property is zoned Medium Density Residential, but the new owners have no plan for additional housing and plan to continue to operate a horse farm to provide boarding for retired and rescue horses.

SADUS Play the Phoenix Saturday
Although the Bay Area proper ushered in more great thrash acts than should be humanly allowed (i.e., Exodus, Possessed, Testament, Death Angel, and more), it was the bands on the peripheral, like Antioch’s own Sadus, that played some of the nastiest and most ferocious guitar riffs around. Today, founding...
