Denise Arenas involved in fatal Kern County bicycle accident
TAFT, CA, (July 15, 2024) - A Taft man died early Monday morning when he was struck by a motorist along Highway 33 in Kern County, the California Highway Patrol reported. According to officers, the cyclist was riding north on Highway 33, south of Cadet Road, when he was struck by a Toyota Highlander traveling in the same direction. The accident happened just before 1 a.m.

Bakersfield, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — AFTERNOON UPDATE 7/14: The evacuation order has been PARTIALLY downgraded to an evacuation warning for zone KRN-118. People in that zone should still prepare to leave again if something changes. The area is still under potential threat. The evacuation order is still in place for zone KRN-495. People in that area are asked to not return yet. The Rancho Fire is 9,590 acres and is 10% contained.

Laura Fire prompts evacuation warning for southern Lake Isabella area
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — UPDATE (JULY, 14, 6:18 p.m.): The Laura Fire has burned 120 acres, and is 5% contained so far, according to the latest update from CalFire. An evacuation warning is in place for the area east of Piute Cypress Instant Study Area, and south of Squirrel Mountain Valley, due to the so-called ‘Laura Fire’ burning in the Lake Isabella area.
