Bench warrant issued for BPD officer charged with assault
A bench warrant was issued Thursday for the Bakersfield police officer charged a day earlier with misdemeanor assault under the color of authority. Officer Anthony Berumen is scheduled to be arraigned Aug. 8 in Kern County Superior Court. He was cited and released Wednesday, but on Thursday, a judge found reasonable grounds to issue an arrest warrant for him, said a spokeswoman for the county District Attorney's Office.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — UPDATE (JULY 12 8:50 A.M.):. One person died and one person is hospitalized after a head-on crash on Panama Lane Thursday evening. The California Highway Patrol said on July 11, 2024, at around 5:49 p.m., officers were called to a report of a head-on crash involving two vehicles on Panama Lane, east of Vineland Road.
