Western Colorado officials present alternative to controversial national monument idea
Officials in western Colorado have offered an alternative to a controversial national monument proposal surrounding a legendary riverscape. Mesa and Montrose counties have presented a map covering 29,806 acres closely following the Dolores River — proposed acreage for a national conservation area, a designation floated in recent years. Local and national conservation groups have more recently proposed a Dolores Canyons National Monument, what they see protecting nearly 400,000 acres of canyonlands and drainages beyond the river corridor.

COLORADO, USA — We know wildfire smoke isn't good for our lungs, but a new study shows it may be particularly hazardous to brain health, too. Wildfire smoke increases your risk of dementia more than other forms of air pollution, according to a 10-year study of more than 1.2 million southern Californians. The findings were just released at the Alzheimer's Association's International Conference in Philadelphia.

Windsor developer Martin Lind has acquired two parcels of land on the west side of Greeley as he works to assemble properties for his massive new arena, hotel and water-park development. According to the Loveland Reporter Herald, Greeley City Council on Tuesday held a special meeting to consider a memorandum of understanding with Lind’s Water Valley Co. to develop a mixed-use project that could include a new arena that would serve as a new home for Lind’s Colorado Eagles minor-league hockey team.

Burn Ban Enacted In Greeley
All outdoor fires are banned within the city of Greeley and the Western Hills Fire Protection District — which spans east of the city past the airport — due to hot, dry weather conditions in the area. According to the Greeley Tribune, the ban includes charcoal grills and other solid fuel devices, as well as fireworks and smokers. Grills or other devices fueled by natural gas or propane — which can easily be shut down if needed — are still allowed. Violators of the ban may be cited.

Wildfire smoke expected to move into Denver on Wednesday
Moderate to thick wildfire smoke is projected to move into the Denver metro area on Wednesday.
