C-I July 9, 2024 County Crime Report
The Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) reported the following recent incidents:. On June 24, deputies responded to a Fort Jackson Road, Elgin residence for a reported of a shooting. They met with a woman living there who said she noticed a silver sedan sitting by her house and began photographing it. She said three male subjects were outside the vehicle on the driver’s side. At one point, she noticed at least one of the subjects had a firearm, at which time, she moved away from the window and then heard several shots. She told deputies that when the shooting stopped, she looked out the window and was able to photograph the vehicle leaving the scene. Deputies found a total of nine empty shell casings and two unspent bullets, all .22 caliber rounds, in the area, and collected other evidence around where the woman said the car had been parked. The woman’s home did not appear to have suffered any damage. As of July 2, it did not appear that anyone had been arrested in the case.
Williams family, GG Jackson to be honored by county council
Kershaw County Council will honor a Camden-area family and a current NBA player during its meeting today, one through a proclamation, and the other via a resolution. The proclamation will honor the William “Shorty” Williams family of the Knights Hill community, which is hosting a family reunion July 19 to 21, with family members coming in from all parts of the county. District 1 Councilman is offering the proclamation, which notes that the Williams family has been a part of the Knights Hill community since the early 1800s, and that current family members span six generations dating back to the 1930s.

Kershaw County firefighters battle brush fire, while drivers battle smoke
CAMDEN, S.C. — Fire crews in Kershaw County are keeping an eye out for hotspots, after a brush fire broke out near Interstate 20 Friday afternoon. Will Glover, Kershaw County’s Director of Emergency Services tells News19 that because of the remote location of the fire, help was needed from the South Carolina Forestry Commission.
