WILLS POINT, Texas ( KETK ) – In 1916 the Rose brothers placed a big white concrete watering trough in the center of East North Commerce Street and North 4th Street in Wills Point.

“In Wills Point there’s three things; the brick streets, Rose monument, and a coach that’s no longer living called Coach Davis and that’s what Wills Point is known for,” Melody Blasingame, Keep Wills Point Beautiful member, said.

Since then, it has become a focal point for the town.

“Back in the 50s, 60s, 70s maybe 80s, the entertainment on Friday and Saturday night was you rode around the monument,” Blasingame said.

On July 18th Rose Monument was hit , and businesses around the Rose Monument were left heartbroken.

“It’s sad that it happened, it was an accident, I hope the lady’s okay,” Benjamin Rabe, a barber at City Barber Shop, said.

On Thursday, Wills Point Mayor Mike Jones released a statement after community members flooded the city with calls and emails wanting to know if it would be fixed.

“I just hope they get it fixed and looking good again,” Rabe said.

The mayor promised, “It will be restored, and work will start as soon as reasonably possible,” but it will take time and money.

“We do have a local stonemason that is going to piece it together and he said it’d be tedious, but he’s willing to take it on so that will help,” Blasingame said.
