TYLER, Texas ( KETK ) — The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) is asking all homeowners to check their mailboxes as part of their Mailbox Improvement Week starting May 19 to May 25.

National Police Week: Fallen officers honored across East Texas

Each year, the postal service designates the third full week of May as Mailbox Improvement Week to encourage customers to examine and potentially improve their mailboxes. According to USPS, “neat, attractive, mailboxes make a significant contribution to the appearance of the countryside and streets in suburban areas.”

Some typical changes homeowners do include:

    • Replacing loose hinges on a mailbox door
    • Repaint a mailbox that may have rusted or started to peel
    • Remounting a loosened mailbox post
    • Replace or add house numbers

For homeowners who plan to install a new mailbox or replace a worn one, must be a “Postal Service-approved traditional, contemporary or locking full/limited service mailboxes.” People can go to their local post office to ensure their new mailbox conforms to the regulations of the USPS.

I agree. when it's raining here ours doesn't shut the door so our mail is soaked and we can't read it for 2 days until it dries. and our mail usually ain't delivered until after 7pm. I've also had a mail person steal my packages and swore she delivered them.
