New Longview ISD superintendent to visit each campus

LONGVIEW, Texas ( KETK ) – Longview ISD students returned to class this week with a new superintendent.

The first few days of school for new Longview ISD superintendent Marla Sheppard have been nothing short of busy.

“[Sheppard’s] been very involved. We have loved seeing her here on our campuses and greeting our families,” Brandi Patterson, Johnston-McQueen Elementary principal, said. “It’s going to be a great year and all of our students will reach their goals, reach their full potential and I’m excited to be a part of that.”

Tuesday morning, Sheppard was at Johnston-McQueen Elementary and for a brief moment she spoke to KETK about her plans.

“There are a lot of wonderful things happening in Longview ISD and there are a lot of really great staff members and a lot of good people here,” Sheppard said. “I visited four schools yesterday, in each situation I saw boys and girls learning and getting to know one another.”

Sheppard plans on visiting all 13 of the district’s campuses by this week. Her willingness to stop by every campus has set the tone for Longview ISD.

“We’ve all had a flame ignited in us that has inspired us to just show up everyday for our students,” Patterson said. “Which means everything to me as an educator.”

The district’s theme for the school year is Embracing the All, something that resonates deeply with Sheppard.

“Focus on every single kid and what we can do to inspire them, support them and ensure that they are successful,” Sheppard said.
