SCAM ALERT: SWEPCO warns of fraudulent solar panel salespeople

TYLER, Texas ( KETK ) – SWEPCO released a consumer alert on Tuesday, warning customers of solar panel salespeople claiming to be official partners with SWEPCO.

According to SWEPCO, they have had an increase in reports of door-to-door solar panel salespeople claiming to be officially partnered with SWEPCO. However, SWEPCO said that would never be the case.

“It’s important for our customers to know SWEPCO does not sell solar panels and is not
partnered with any companies that do,” William Bradford Jr., SWEPCO vice president of external affairs, said.

In the consumer alert, SWEPCO added that purchasing solar panels for a home is a long-term investment and that it is important to vet who you could be buying them from and to especially look for any hidden fees they could be passing off.

“We believe that before a consumer makes any investment, they should take time to research
the product, the costs, the company selling the system and any long-term commitments to have
the facts necessary to make the choice that’s best for them and their family,” Paul Pratt,
SWEPCO director of customer services & marketing, said.
