Christine Martin, choir director at Bishop Gorman, has two children with hereditary spherocytosis, 2-year-old Charlotte and 6-month-old John Paul. The incurable rare blood disorder means that they’ve had to receive a total of 14 blood transfusions in the last two years.

They’re regular patients of the Children’s Medical Center Dallas Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, which will receive blood from the Bishop Gorman drive.

Bishop Gorman students who donate blood twice in their senior year will receive an honor cord for graduation, according to the school.

The drive is being held with a Carter BloodCare bus at the school from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday. Carter BloodCare recently announced that blood donors will be entered into a drawing o win tickets to see the Dallas Cowboys play in Arlington.

The Bishop Gorman Catholic School is located at 1405 E. Southeast Loop 323 in Tyler.
