    East Texas organizations receive grants from Dollar General

    TYLER, Texas ( KETK ) – The Dollar General Literacy Foundation (DGLF) awarded more than $220,000 of grants to youth literacy programs and organizations in Texas, including several in East Texas.

    According to a release, the grants will be used for programs and organizations to purchase books, technology and equipment to help expand literacy in K-12 students. The grants awarded to East Texas organizations are the following:

    • Big Sandy ISD – $3,675
    • Boys and Girls Clubs of Deep East Texas – $3,850
    • Gladewater High School – $4,000
    • Friends of The Longview Public Library – $2,100
    $3,000 awarded to Texarkana College for scholarships, food pantry

    “We understand investing in youth literacy means investing in the future of students and our collective communities,” Denine Torr, executive director of the Dollar General Literacy Foundation, said. “Through these grants, we hope to enhance the programs’ efforts to foster students’ critical thinking skills, creativity and confidence so they can unlock their potential and achieve their dreams.”
