Minor injuries confirmed after crash involving Tatum ISD school bus

RUSK COUNTY, Texas ( KETK ) – Rusk County authorities said minor injuries have been reported after a crash involving a Tatum ISD school bus Wednesday morning.

According to Tatum ISD, a school bus was involved in an accident at around 7:15 a.m. on CR 2144.

“While approaching an oncoming vehicle, the bus moved over slipped off the side of the road, and the front passenger side mirror hit a tree. The bus driver stopped to check on the students immediately and then moved the bus to a safe area off the road to call for assistance,” Tatum ISD said.

School officials said 22 students were on the bus and 19 of them were picked up by their parents/guardians. The remaining three students were examined by emergency services for any injuries and were taken to the district after the transportation department notified their guardians, the district said.

“A large response was initiated and we do have confirmation from first responders on the scene of some minor injuries,” Rusk County Emergency Management Office officials said.

Tatum ISD said no students were transported to the hospital, however some guardians took their students to be examined but have since been released form the hospital. School officials said they have contacted immediate contacts of all that were involved.
