According to a release, the ceremony was held at the Dr. Bryan C. Jack Elementary School and they gathered inside due to the rain this year. According to Tyler ISD the student-led ceremony included the pledge of allegiance to the American and Texas flags, remarks from principal Brett Shelby and a performance of the national anthem by the elementary school choir.

The district said that this ceremony was broadcasted to more than 700 students and 80 staff across the district.

“Dr. Bryan C. Jack Elementary is a shining example of the hidden gems found in Tyler and East Texas,” Superintendent Dr. Marty Crawford said. “Much like the community it serves, the school’s culture mirrors the spirit of its Patriot mascot, embracing self-accountability and responsibility. When every student, parent, and staff member commits to putting in the effort, exceptional outcomes are the result.”

The school’s namesake, Dr. Bryan C. Jack was a son of Tyler ISD educators and was present on the plane that crashed into the Pentagon, where Jack had worked for 20 years, on 9/11. The school, that was named after Jack in 2007, has held the student-led ceremony since its opening.

“Every year, it is a privilege to honor the namesake of Dr. Bryan C. Jack Elementary on Patriot Day,” Shelby said. “We take great pride in learning about his service to our country, his leadership, and the lasting legacy he has left for future generations.”
