    SCAM ALERT: Fraudulent texts claim to be from TxTag

    TYLER, Texas ( KETK ) – The Texas Department of Transportation has been receiving calls regarding scam texts that claim to be for TxTag.

    According to a release, TxTag customers have been receiving text messages claiming that they have a balance due or past due. TxDOT said that these scams have been happening since April, but have increased lately.

    TxDOT said that customers need to be vigilant about opening texts from anywhere and that TxTag texts will always come from the number 22498. To be safer, any alerts regarding a TxTag account can be verified on their website or through the app.

    TxDOT added that anytime a customer is being contacted about their account, the representative will make sure to confirm their account information.
