    17-year-old girl arrested for threatening post, school district says

    SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas ( KETK ) – A 17-year-old girl was arrested Sunday night and is accused of making terroristic threats, Sulphur Springs ISD said.

    At around 9 p.m. on Sunday, district staff were made aware of “another post containing threats,” and notified the district’s chief of police, Superintendent Deana Steeber said.

    Steeber said the district’s police department launched an investigation alongside the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office.

    “The suspect was identified and detained within the hour,” Sulphur Springs ISD officials said.

    According to the district, 17-year-old Lucinda Smith is a Sulphur Springs High School student and is now facing felony charges for making a terroristic threat.

    Smith was booked into the Hopkins County Jail and was also charged for possession of a controlled substance.

    “These types of threats, whether credible or not, will be met with severe consequences every single time,” Steeber said. “Anyone participating in this type of behavior can expect swift and immediate action.”
