Kilgore’s Big Lots among stores closing after bankruptcy filing

KILGORE, Texas ( KETK ) – Big Lots stores across the country are set to close, following the company’s recent bankruptcy filing, and Kilgore’s location is one of them.

A bright orange banner that reads “Closing this location,” now adorns the Kilgore Big Lots website.

The website also says, the 98 Midtown Plz. location in Kilgore is having a closing sale where customers can save up to 20% off.

In early September, the news broke that the retail company, founded in 1967 , filed for bankruptcy protection . In turn, company officials decided which of the hundreds of stores would close.

“Though the majority of our store locations are profitable, we intend to move forward with a more focused footprint to ensure that we operate efficiently and are best positioned to serve our customers,” Big Lots CEO Bruce Thorn said . “To accomplish this, we intend to use the tools afforded by this process to continue optimizing our store fleet in an orderly manner.”

Big Lots also entered into a sale agreement with Nexus Capital Management where they’d acquire the company’s assets and business operations.

“The Big Lots business has incredible potential and we are confident that its greatest days are ahead,” Nexus Managing Director Evan Glucoft said.
