HUGHES SPRINGS, Texas ( KETK ) – A person accused of making threatening statements to Hughes Springs High School students while walking across the campus Wednesday morning was arrested by local authorities and now faces a felony.

OFFICIALS: Author of threat against Gilmer ISD identified as 13-year-old

According to Hughes Springs ISD, students saw a person walking across the campus “that did not belong” and told administrators. The district said the person also made threatening statements to students so the entire district was secured while the sheriff’s department, campus and city police looked for them.

“The individual was located in less than 20 minutes at a residence in a neighborhood near the school,” the district said.

Police found the person unarmed and took them to the police department where they are facing a terroristic threat charge, the school district said.

“We always encourage anyone with knowledge about threats, whether they are credible or not, to immediately inform campus administration, campus police or another trusted adult on campus,” HSISD said.
