Avery teen Reili Brewer was hunting with her father, Rickey Brewer, on the Red River Army Depot’s property when she spotted the 29-point white-tailed buck last October.

According to the depot , Rickey first spotted the buck in 2021 and again in 2022. By October 2023, he felt he had narrowed down the area and allowed his 14-year-old daughter to hunt with him over the weekend.

Reili is a skilled and experienced hunter who began at seven years old. She told Adrienne Brown with the RRAD that, before the hunting trip with her father, she was sure she would get the deer.

Heavy rain began falling on Oct. 29, and the temperature in the area dropped. After giving Reili his rain gear, her father left to change clothes. She was alone in the stand when the deer came by several minutes later and stopped to eat acorns. Reili seized the opportunity and took her shot.

The 29-point buck had a Boone and Crockett non-typical score of 239 2/8 (244 7/8 gross B&C). The Brewers had the white-tail mounted by Anthony Salisbury, owner of Alpha Taxidermy in Terrell, Texas.

Reili not only broke the record for the largest white-tailed buck harvested by a youth in Texas, it’s the fourth largest buck harvested by a youth nationwide. The buck is also the 14th largest taken in the state of Texas.
