    Athens mayor names Sept. 25 after 100-year-old dedicated to family, community

    ATHENS, Texas ( KETK ) – On Sept. 25, 1924, Audrey Allie Rogers Ferguson was born in Malakoff and now she is celebrating her 100th birthday with a day named after her.

    On Wednesday, Athens Mayor Aaron Smith visited the Countryside Senior Living of Athens and proclaimed the day after Ferguson for spending her life dedicated to her family and community, the city said.

    According to the City of Athens, Ferguson who is a Malakoff High School graduate is also a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Malakoff.

    “Mrs. Ferguson is known for her love of the outdoors, her bountiful gardens and her famous homemade candy,” the city said. “Her contributions to the community, including her work as a bookkeeper and as a loving cowhand to her husband, Jim Bob Ferguson, were celebrated during the proclamation.”

    Now every Sept. 25 will be celebrated as Mrs. Audrey Allie Rogers Ferguson Day in the City of Athens.
