According to the police department, from June through August the department conducted four “compliance operations” utilizing underaged people posing as customers.

Police said that 20 stores were visited for tobacco sales, two of which sold tobacco products to the underaged individuals.

Officials said that 37 stores were visited for alcohol sales, 19 of which sold alcohol products to the underaged individuals.

According to Longview PD, each violation had a citation issued or a case filed with the Gregg County District Attorney’s Office.

“Currently it is the law in Texas that an individual must be 21 or older to purchase or possess alcohol or tobacco products. Besides traditional enforcement efforts, the Longview Police Department’s Police Area Representatives (PAR) unit also works with TABC and local teens to perform law compliance investigations.”
