Kourage Health’s luncheon meant to inspire hope in spite of health struggles, such as chronic illness, had Miller share about her own battle with ovarian cancer and what it means to be a survivor.

“It was important that I share my story, there’s not enough ovarian cancer survivors, number one, but I think it was other survivors that reached out to me and spoke about their stories that made me realize it’s important for us to get out and talk about it. So I just decided if I could help one woman get to her doctor or speak up about something that doesn’t seem right or focus on her health if I could help one woman do that then it was worth it,” Miller said.

According to her website, during Miller’s time as a gymnast she won over 59 international and 49 national competition medals and was the first American gymnast to win an individual gold medalist at a “fully-attended summer games.”

Miller’s website shares that in 2011 she was diagnosed with a rare form of ovarian cancer and used her struggle as a way to “empower women to make their health a priority.”
