They are planning to give the checks out next Monday. Longview Mayor Kristen Ishihara thanked the council for recognizing the people who keep the city running.

“Everyone here values the city employees,” Ishihara said. “We were disappointed to not be able to do a raise this year, and certainly it is our intention to continue looking at that annually and hope that will be something we are able to fit into the budget next year.”

The item was unanimously approved in a vote by the council.

“We wish it was a raise, but this is what we are able to do this year, and we’re grateful to be able to do it,” Ishihara said. “I appreciate y’all supporting that and supporting our city employees, we have the best anywhere.”
